Ausströmung

This audiovisual installation fills the empty basin of the private swimming pool at Burg Gladbach with new content. This media art installation combines sound and video projections specially developed by Nathalie Brum for the pool. The work transforms acoustic and visual impressions gathered on site into an abstract exploration of technology—both as a means of control and as a stage for water.
Inspired by the pond of water lilies surrounding the castle, which is aerated by a special pump, Brum uses video footage of water movements and reflections as the basis for the visuals. The sound layer merges recordings of the romanticized pond, its surroundings, and the stark water engineering technology.
Ausströmung questions the boundary between nature and technology. How natural is a human-made landscape? How much poetry can reside within technical processes?
