Umwälzpumpe Abschäumerkreislauf
Beneath the surface—unseen and unheard—a high-tech organism of pumps, filters, and flushing systems sustains an eternal cycle of fresh and saltwater within Düsseldorf's Aquazoo. This piece delves into the soundscape of an unseen place. As part of the long-term project Gesang der Maschinen (Song of the Machines), I investigate the noise and technical sounds from isolated and technologized parallel worlds that are hidden from the public. By modifying recordings of building service systems, the boundary between public space and internal operations increasingly blurs.
The work transforms mechanical and infrastructural sounds into a live electronic performance, highlighting the often-overlooked acoustic environments that sustain public spaces. Through field recordings and live processing, the piece invites the audience to experience the hidden sonic layers of our built environment.
